OK, I officially hate you... Especially the 200mm f/1.8. Do you have any shots with it you can post? Where did you get it anyway? I really want on of those as well as the 85mm f1.2. Something about the size of the front elements on those lenses just turns me on...

No ****! My telescope is an 800 f4 and it's gargantuan. I can't imagine attaching something even half that size onto a camera and carrying it about.

When I ran film at the super bowl I got to carry a few of them... The pro football shooters leave them on monopods so you just shoulder it. The camera rides on the lens with them, not the other way around.

Didn't I tell you to visit my hotel room when I wasn't there? Tsk tsk...

I got it from a seller on FM, and yeah, I share the same fascination with large front elements. There's just something about them that says "no-nonsense", you know?

Here are some shots. The first one is of me with the III/200 around my neck, the other two are 100% crops from the 200. EXIFs should be intact (saved at 7/12 compression in CS2):

Do you mean the 400 or the 200? Either way they're pretty hefty. I think I put in my 200 mini-review that the thing is almost as unwieldy as the 400. I can handhold both for a while, but for a full day of shooting I need at least a monopod.

I was talking about the 400, as I narrowed it down in my quote. You have any shots of that around your neck?

None in my possession. Even though the camera strap can handle it, I usually have a hand on the handle, partly to keep the weight off my neck, and partly to stabilize the lens.

Do it in this thread then link to you post in here...

    here's how you do it.
First make a post with all your gear in it.
Then click this button in the top left of the post:
that will take you to a window with JUST that one post in it.
copy the URL out of your browser at the top.
then click quick links (top right under private messages) and pick "edit profile".
scroll down to signature and put the URL in there, but do it like this...
    click this button:
    that will give you this:
between the url tags, type "gear list" like this:
    Code:
    gear list
then add in the URL of your post in like this:
    Code:
    gear list
make sure you use your URL or it will be my list...

also, another way to do it is to quote this post, delete everything else, and use this below:
    gear list
then just change the link to your post, and put that in your signature.
fixed the first post with the above info on how to do it. added it here in case you're like me and scroll to the bottom to see what's going on...

Thanks, I pretty much only use the 17-35 and 80-200 but throw the 50 on from time to time. I am saving up for (and will hopefully have soon) the 70-200 2.8 VR. Once I get it I'll stick with those three.

Probably keep the 18-70 and maybe the 80-200 to give to my son to use on the D70 then sell the 70-300 and the 60 and be done (yeah right )

It just suits my range so well. the 70-300 is nice, but a fast 80-200 would do me better for when I need it (which isn't that often). I kind of love the VR, though, and I'm like you, Kensington--I'd love to have the 70-200VR, but with what I shoot generally, I can't justify dropping that much dough on a tele, even though it's supposed to be amazing.

I pretty much leave the 17-35 on as most of my shots are of the kids/family shots indoors. I will pop the 80-200 on for action, Jonas karate or flag football or Emily's dance recital/compettitions when i am usually in a balcony and the lighting has much sux. I pretty much want the 70-200 for the faster focus (especially since she is getting older and there is much faster action) in that poor lighting at this point the VR would just be icing on the cake.

Well, you and I have pretty much the same gear, but I don't have kids yet, so I don't need the long, fast end yet.
