I really wanted to try this out with some video today but didn't have time to go anywhere fun so I took the dog on a walk.

First impression is that I love the gimbal. It will definitely take some getting used to how fast I can move the camera around and when to use the trigger lock. It's tricky to explain but basically the trigger lock makes the gimbal do it's best to keep the camera pointed at the same place in the same orientation. Without the lock, it will slowly adjust on the x axis and the y axis while smoothing out any jerky movement. Double clicking trigger will recenter the camera on the new view which is helpful if you turn faster than it can. There's also a joystick that can be used to compensate for quick motion and to adjust the POV.

I'm going to try and go for a hike tomorrow and shoot with both my iPhone and my GoPro on the gimbal and see if I can get better at it.

I got the Osmo Mobile - gimbal with a clamp and a grip and you can put anything that you can fit and balance on the gimbal.

How bad does it drain the battery on your phone?

Haven't tested it enough yet to know. It shouldn't be any worse than any regular filming as I don't plan on using the DJI app all that much.

ok, so, this is JUST a gimbal, then you attach whatever you want to it? IE works with BOTH a gopro and your phone? Also, what's the weight limit, can it handle a P&S (290g for my RX100III)?

Yeah, exactly. It's tough to get DJI to say what the max weight is but they claim it will handle up to an iPhone 6/7 Plus, so 192 grams. Seems like the RX1003 is 100 grams more than that so maybe not? You also have to make sure that the item has roughly the same weight distribution as the phone. Some people have made frames to hold the goPro out to the side of the gimbal but having most of the weight that far off center apparently ruins the motors? I've just been putting my GoPro dead center and then holding the gimbal upside down if necessary.

this is the one benefit of working overnights waiting for something to happen to then get to work. I can edit at work which is handy at times.

I think my gig is worse. Sitting around doing nothing, locked in a room for 12 hrs. No internet surfing, no radio... nothing. Just the hum of meters.
It would be nice if I could just sit there and do something.

    Stupidity angers me.
If it weren't for the last minute, nothing would get done.

Ugh that would suck!!! When **** hits the fan, Ie: breaking news its like a time warp for me. All of a sudden it's 3-4hrs later and I'm heading home. But otherwise it's down time "waiting" but I have internet.

Unfortunately for me boring days are the goal. And exciting or interesting day at work is a bad day for the industry. Sorry to derail this thread!

So now that I have the DJI Osmo Mobile I'm of course considering getting the GoPro Karma Grip because it has this mode where you can mount the gimbal anywhere and put the grip/battery somewhere else.

My GoPro chest mount just showed up tonight so I'm going to wear it biking/hiking this weekend and see how bouncy it is but I'm seriously tempted here.
