Thread: NSOP Affiliate Program!!!

Hybrid View

  1. #1

    Default  NSOP Affiliate Program!!!

The goal of NSOP is to cover the costs to run the forum, not profit. I'd prefer to avoid ads and banners (at least for logged in users). Affiliate links work very well to generate some income for the site as they're subtle and are also used on a volunteer basis. These links earn the forum a percent of a sale generated by going to that site through our link. If you buy something at one of the affiliates using the forum's link, the forum gets a very small % of the sale. It's not much (2%~3%) but it adds up with all the gear everyone buys over time.

Here is a list of our current affiliates, click the link and shop as you usually would:

here's how to use them to support the forum:
    • click the link for the site you're going to purchase from
    • THEN search for what you want and add it to your cart.
    • checkout (this is where you login if you're member of that site)
    • that's it!

Hopefully this is an unobtrusive way to fund the forum's costs without slowing the board down or being a distraction.

    Thanks for helping!

D'OH! I just bought my little Gorillapod (not much but it's something) from Amazon this week. I buy a lot from Amazon because lots of survey's seminars seem to give out Amazon gift certs. Glad to see this.

I got "Search," "Categories," "Member's Sites," (It should be Members' Sites, btw. ), and the calendar. Nothing below.

I followed the link at the bottom. I see tutorials and the Road Trip blog. I even clicked on the Affiliates tab, Just Ben's write-up in there and nothing else.

    Hey Ben,
I trying to use the link off the main page, but I'm unable to login. The bookmark I use for the forum automatically logs me in, but I tried to reset my password on the main page and it said my username and email address do not match. I know what my username, email address, and password on the forum page are, but apparently its something different on the main page.
Can you give me a hand with this?
    Thanks!

    Bill,
You don't need to log onto the main page. That's just for Admin use so he can update the blog. The affiliate links are on the right side of the main page and you don't need to log in to use them.

It's too bad Amazon.com won't ship to Canada -- and Amazon.ca doesn't carry photography stuff.

Maybe give vistek.ca and henrys.com a shout and see if they're interested, Ben, for us few Canadians.

When are you adding buydig.com or Beach Camera? I'm pretty sure they have an affiate purchase program.

It just always seems like they usually price themselves 2%-3% lower than B&H, adorama, etc.., offer free shipping and they're a good vendor.

great idea as I'm sure duties make the US vendors overpriced right? I emailed both to see what they say. Neither have anything on their sites about it (bad sign) but vistek does have a links button... Yeah, links with no commission?

I'll look into them I guess. My issue is I've tried to keep it to a small list with the big name places that people don't have issues with... Everyone seems to universally like the vendors we have. I'd hate to have someone have a bad experience with a vendor I'm linking them to, and I'm not sure with beach or buydig. It's not that I've really heard bad things, it's that the vendors we have are more universally know as "the best".

yeah, you get enrolled with their program just by being a customer... They want you to put their link on any site you host with them to get them more customers so they make it pretty easy... Since we already have affiliates here I figured why not?

Their reviews are just as good, if not better than B&H, adorama, newegg, etc.

I just hate comprimising the fact that I can save $50-$100, get it shipped free in a day or two and not being able to support NSOP with overhead costs.

Enh, it's worth a shot. There's also LL Lozeau, a local place here in Montreal, and cameracanada.com, if you feel like trying out a couple more.

Yeah, B&H is still the only program that's really been worth it to me... IE I've gotten 3 checks from them (one for each month we've been enrolled). Amazon and adorama have sales, but not enough to hit the check writing point. So they'll continue to accumulate and eventually pay out.

B&H and Amazon are officially working again! I never removed the links or talked too much about it because I didn't want people to stop using the links, but a RI law made them drop me but it's since been sorted out!!!
