I ordered a back up battery for the 40D which is being delivered tomorrow. Made an order with Sterling Tek for a BP511A. They sent a BP511 instead. When I emailed about the mistake they apologized, but said the BP511 should work. So will this work ok on the 40D, or should I make them send me the 511A? If the 511 will work that is fine with me, the 2 costs the same and no hassle of shipping back.

I don't know if there is one. That is why I started this thread. Just to make sure I don't need to send it back.

The BP511a is 1380mAh compared to 1100 for the 511. Both will work fine with the 20D 30D 5D 350XT or 300D and a number of G series cameras.

As I understand it, the 511a will last 30-50% longer than the 511. I have some generic 511a's that are rated at 1700mAh... put two of these in a battery grip and I'm good all day.

Thanks, that explains it. The 511 they sent claims 2000mAh. I guess I will find out.
