Here's a PP this thread. I wasn't happy with what I came up with so you guys do your best.

Here was my attempt that I was unhappy with:

I'm giving you three full size images, so you can do an HDR if you want:

I think in some cases it will be near impossible to get rid of that purple tone you are seeing between the leaves.

 wow jason that's awesome!!!

That's the result I was looking for. Shows I need to polish my pp techniques. Would you mind trying to explain what you did?

Alright everyone, don't let Jason have all the fun...

I totally didn't... but I didn't take it quite as seriously as Jason did...

You guys inspired me to give the single exposure one more try. You really helped me see that this shot could look great even without HDR.

Granted, I have the RAW so its not as hard for me as it is for you.

My technique is probably a bit stranger than most people would try.
It depended heavily on Photomatix Pro, then Photoshop CS3 for the dodging/burning, fine tuning of the contrast and levels.

So here is a fast break down of how I did it.

1. Took the three images and made a tonemapped image
(not too much not too little, not just right)
2. Took the three exposures again and made an exposure merge
(not too much not too little, not just right)
3. Took the result of the two processes above and made another exposure merge.
4. Opened it in photoshop and took care of business.

Sort of a weird way to do it, but it gave me something to do at work.

wait, so you did merge all three... interesting! Do you mean you did a Tone Compressor (vs. Detail Enhancement) and then a Blend Exposure?

I merged all 3 twice, which created two separate images (tonemapped & exposure blend) that I merged together to make the final image.

So here are links to another example of a similar process with photomatix..

The RAW came out waaaay too dark in this photo:
http://flickr.com/photos/nothingbeatsaduck/2700885528/

So, using the RAW editor, I created 3 under exposed, and 3 over exposed (1 stop each, -3 -> +3), images totaling 7 images (includes original) which I then combined to make this "HDR":

before you get too excited french, i have to tell you that i used a TC and a DE image for mine... so it IS "hdr." :D

edit: basically used my patented approach of layering the TC and DE images together. TC on bottom, DE on top, semi transparent.

i also got rid of the purple CA by just desaturating all purple tones. luckily there weren't any others in the rest of the shot. :)

actually it was very easy to get rid of for this shot. Desaturate the magenta channel 100%. ;)

Well, I am glad I am not a photoshop expert. Man, I would totally screw people without knowing.

other than having too much saturation, ben has good taste in post processing. :p

and yeah, I went back and opened yours in a new tab and mine in another to see just how close they were. Pretty cool to see mine with one -vs- yours using all 3. :)
