Let my preface my post by stating that I've only just started to work on learning Photoshop Elements 10. I don't have Photoshop CS5

OK, here's a noob question regarding Photoshop CS5. I tried Google, but didn't really find anything that answered my question.

In PSE10, once I've opened a RAW file I can't create a background copy (or layer mask) because Photoshop Elements has limited support for files with 16 bit color depth. So, I have to convert to 8 bit color depth to fully work on my files.

Is Photoshop CS5 the same, or does the program have full support for files with 16 bit color depth?

Regards,

Erich

it doesn't have full support for 16-bit files, some things are still grayed out, but layers and layermasks are not one of them. :)

they have a free 30 day demo available on their site.

Thanks.

I was looking at downloading the demo of CS5 today. I'm going to download the demo and see what I can/can't do.
