What do you guys think of this tripod head?

I'm looking to finally start upgrading my tripod head and was going to get some sorta ball head but this seems pretty neat!

so that's just a 3 way pan head with this:

cool I guess, but it will still have ALL of the hassles associated with a 3way. And ballheads aren't nearly as bad as they make them seam.

I'd LOVE a geared head though...

It looks really cool, and I would buy one, if I could try it first for a month. I think after a month I would find something that would lead me back to a traditional ball head, but maybe I'm wrong. And being an Induro tripod and head owner, I am not thrilled with their outdoor resiliency, IE after about two years, the leg locks are just about gone, the ball head sucks, and I am now looking for a Gitzo that I can afford. (Used).

well right now im using a manfrotto pan head and am really itching for a new head... im leaning toward a nice ball head... i figure im better off spending a little more (okay maybe a LOT more) now and getting something thats rock solid then slowly getting a better head.

the thing is they're MAKING the ballhead look awkward because they want to sell you a 3way. OJ made a glove look like it didn't fit, but that doesn't mean he didn't kill his wife. ;) If you adjust your drag on your ballhead it's a non-issue. Some like it super loose, some super tight, but it's adjustable for a reason.

As I said, I'd LOVE a geared head, but they're still a PITA because each time you setup you have to make sure it's axises are lines up with how you're going to want to use them. That's the same issue I had with my 3way. I had a bogen 3030 for a long time and was ALWAYS frustrated by that. Of course I have a similar issue with my ballhead in that I don't look at the head position until my legs are set, but that just means the knobs aren't in their best positions. Pan a bit and that's fixed (which could also work with a 3way).

yeah.... haha i could definitely sense the "infomercial-frustration" they are trying to show with ball heads... Either way, i thought it was neat and wanted some input!

looks like ill just stick with a normal ballhead.
