I finally broke down and got the Photographic Solutions sensor swab and Eclipse fluid. Works pretty well with some practice. You can't order the Eclipse online (they won't ship methanol), but you can get the pecpads/swabs online for cheaper, then buy the Eclipse locally. Or just go down to NYC and pick it up yourself at B&H.

I'll give my normal sensor klear loupe recommendation.

I ordered some from Adorama like 2 months ago. BH wouldn't ship it though. Weird

So Adorama does ship it? I'll have to keep that in mind, even though I can get it locally easily enough.

copperhill also just shipped me a bottle.

Matt, when will you be in RI next? I have a few things you can try and even have since I have 3 bottles of eclipse...

Anyway, I'll go more in depth on this from work. I HIGHLY recomend the sensor loupe bobby told me about (there are a few versions). The sensor PEN is CRAP (doesn't pick anything up). There are a few different sensor wide swabs that are all similar, some are more expensive and prepackaged so you JUST add fluid and wipe, others are more DIY solutions with you wrapping something with a pec pad, tapping it, then adding fluid, but much less expensive. There are also 2 (that I've found) spot specific options if you're using the sensor loupe. I haven't tried any of those yet, but they're on a list at B&H I'll be ordering shortly.

but @ 1.2, either your sensors wicked dirty, or are you finally stopping down? I only see my dust when I'm down to f/8 or smaller.

Not sure about RI, hopefully soon but things start to get super busy as of this weekend.

the spot doesnt show in any photo I take, but theres a spot visible to me when I look at it and the rocket blower doesnt do the trick. I was gonna stop at the local camera store to either get something quick or just have them do it since I dont have time to send it to Canon before the weekend.

take a shot stopped down. If it doesn't show up it's mapped out of your sensor already (sensors often ship with **** on them that's mapped out ;)). If not, then yeah, clean it. Maybe next weekend, but I really don't want to bring all my **** to TX unless a bunch of people want to see how it works.

yup, it shows up stopped down for sure, dont worry about bringing it to tx, not for me at least. Ill have it cleaned this week either by myself or the local shop.

here's what I've been looking at for cleaning specific spots:
2 versions of the same thing:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=WishList.jsp&A=details&Q=&sku=456862&is=REG#features
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=WishList.jsp&A=details&Q=&sku=456861&is=REG#features

fluid to go with the above (not sure if eclipse would work?):
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=WishList.jsp&A=details&Q=&sku=435207&is=REG
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=WishList.jsp&A=details&Q=&sku=439049&is=REG

a "kit" but it only has 3 tips:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=WishList.jsp&A=details&Q=&sku=357732&is=REG

I NEED to clean mine right now though, and have all my **** here at work. I have the copper hill static brush, 2 rocket airs (one has a different name, but it's the same thing) the new swabs copper hill sent me the other day, three bottles of eclipse now and my old "spatula" with pec pads... I'll see if I can make time to clean it today and report back on the new swabs and the static brush. I'm also thinking normal old Q-tips wrapped in a pec pad might be the best option in terms of cost and getting specific spots...

pec pads are just so inexpensive, it's hard to pay more for something else:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/71154-REG/Photographic_Solutions_PAD44_Pec_Pad_Photo_Wipes_. html

so I'm hoping they'll work on a Q-tip...

FWIW, I have used standard over the counter Q-tips rigorously on my 5D to remove spots. It was recommended from the local camera shop. Take it for what it is worth, no issues so far.

Shawn, so your just using regular q tips with solution?

i have still not needed to clean my sensor. i've gotten stuff on my viewfinder and mirror but never an issue with my sensor.

shawn, I'll admit I did that last week when the sensor loupe showed up. They work w/o harm, but they leave lint behind if you bump into things (the sides of the mirror etc). Maybe with a rocket air blast afterwards they work better? I just figure adding a pec pad over the top is cheap enough, and I have them, so that's better in terms of leaving crap behind?

how often do you stop down?

how often do you stop down?

recently more and more. the more i shoot with strobes and speedlights the more i am stopped down. anywhere from 6.3 to 11 is not uncommon.

I have, yes. but Ben's Pec pad wrap seems like a better idea.

wow, I'm surprised you're not seeing anything in that case living where I assume it's pretty dry/dusty. My 5Dii made it ~3 months before it needed it's first cleaning, the D700 about the same.

but I do change lenses A LOT. :diaf:
