i am easily amused and i love this shot. to me, i got really lucky on it.

i still had my ND grad on after shooting a fountain. i saw this car and tried for a panning shot, but my settings were still set for the fountain.

i am really happy with this "accident."

^ Ben, your jpeg is doing some weird posterizing, at least on my monitor... nice shot, though!

jacobsen1
01-14-2008, 11:12 PM
like what? Can you screenshot it or describe it better?
That's from the new Leica, so it's possible somethings funky. I've only seen them on one monitor so far.

Markitos
01-14-2008, 11:20 PM
It's in the upper right, around the clouds--the tonal transitions are just really blocky and posterized... now that I look closely, all of the sky looks like that... it looks like a really down-rezzed photo or something... hold on, I will try to get a screen shot (I am not very good at it).

I dunno if this is big enough to be helpful, but check it out.

jacobsen1
01-14-2008, 11:27 PM
yeah, OK, I can see what you're saying, but only when I look SUPER close at the screen. Is it VERY obvious, and in more than a few places for you? I can see one place that is a line from the top right corner going along the cloud line, then one other spot too...

I'm going to re-edit a new version and see if it's in the original, or in the PP.

Markitos
01-14-2008, 11:28 PM
Yeah, it's really obvious, or I probably wouldn't have noticed/mentioned it. And yes, it's everywhere there is sky.

jacobsen1
01-14-2008, 11:35 PM
OK, weird, because I didn't notice it until you said it, but I can see it, it's just very subtle. OK, I redid the PP and "it's gone"?
(you may have to clear your cache, because it's the same filename/location)

Markitos
01-14-2008, 11:37 PM
Yep, now it looks fine.... nice shot, Ben! :)

jacobsen1
01-14-2008, 11:40 PM
weird. I wonder what it was, because I PPed it "the same" (obviously not)... It's also interesting it was pretty subtle for me and not so much for you... Looks like I should be looking into monitor calibration. :unamused:

Thanks though, for pointing it out and the compliment.

You're welcome--I'm pretty impressed with the Leica shots so far, and I love the 16:9.

<--Trying not to be tempted... :$$$:

jacobsen1
01-14-2008, 11:52 PM
yeah, at ISO 100, I'm thrilled with it. Above it does get pretty noisy which I knew going in, I just need to figure out the best way to deal with it (ie noise reduction, settings in camera, and weather I need RAW or not). but anytime there is good light, I'm loving it. Awesome lens with IS that works very well, and the 28mm with 16:9 is awesome. Check my thread tomorrow as I'll be posting up a bunch more shots from it (that are on my blog now).

Markitos
01-15-2008, 12:02 AM
You should do a noise comparison--but in a different thread. When you get around to it.
