This is one reason the C1~C3 options on the lower end canons RULE!!! I have one for "sports" (C2) one for inside low light, and one for the studio here at work...

if you would share what those custom settings are that would be awesome. might save me a lot of time.

which settings, the C1~C3 custom modes, or the custom functions? and yeah, I was thinking of making a thread where everyone could share whatever settings they change when they get a new camera. :)

Not sure if this is the right forum for this thread, but I was reading through old posts, and wanted to know this stuff myself, and since Ben already suggested that he might make a thread for it, I thought this might be helpful to more people than just me.

:)

OK, here's my CFs:

I-5: Exposure Bracketing sequence 1: -, 0, +
I-6: Exposure Safety shift 1: Enable (Tv/Av)
I-7: Exposure flash sync speed in Av mode 0: Auto

C.Fn II: Image
II-1: Image Long exp. noise reduction 0: Off
II-2: High ISO speed noise reduction 0: Standard
II-3: Image Highlight tone priority 0: Disable
II-4: Image Auto Lighting Optimizer 0: Standard

C.Fn III: Auto focus / Drive
III-1: Lens drive when AF impossible 0: Focus search on
III-2: Lens AF stop button function 0: AF stop
III-3: AF point selection method 1: Multi-controller direct
III-4: Superimposed display 0: On
III-5: AF-assist beam firing 0: Enable

IV-3: Assign SET button 4: Image replay
IV-4: Dial direction during Tv/Av 0: Normal
IV-5: Focusing Screen 1: Eg-D
IV-6: Add original decision data 0: Off

then my normal menu settings:

Quality RAW, SRAW1, SRAW2
JPEG Large Fine
Beep On
Shoot w/o card off
Review time 2 sec
Peripheral illum. correct. Enable
Expo. comp./AEB 1/2 EV steps (C.Fn I-1)
White balance Auto
Color space sRGB
Picture Style User Def. 1
Highlight alert Enable
AF point disp. Enable
Histogram Brightness

C1 for me is 3200, Av set to f/2, one shot, AWB and sRAW2 for Elias/PAD shots. C2 for me is a "sports" setting with Tv set to 1/250th, 'H' for drive, and AI servo (and I think ISO 400). That's basically for oh **** moments when something happens right in front of me. C3 is my work lightbox setting with M @ 1/125th, f8, ISO400 and a Custom WB.

what is saftey shift?

if you're shooting in Av and have it set to f/5.6 for example and it's too dark for that, it'll shift the aperture down so it works. It's similar for Tv. Basically, with it OFF, you'll under/overexpose the shot but it'll keep your settings, with it on, the camera shifts the settings to get an exposure, it's just not exactly what you were thinking....

I'm guessing Safety Shift is only avail with the upper end cameras... that setting seems completely new to me, it would have sounded familiar. Sounds like it comes in handy though.

I'm pretty sure it's been on all my canons?

edit:
looks like all but the rebels have it.

I think it was added on the 30D, so all newer bodies have it.
