Today was the NCL mother/daughter tea and Ryan looked to pretty not to take a picture. She was less than enthused but she mustered a smile for a little while. Anyway, I like these obviously since she's my daughter and she's beautiful, but because they turned out okay. It was my first time using flash outdoors for a portrait situation. I don't think they are just right and since my pp skills are **** I'm giving you a go. Fix these up and then let me know what you did so I can learn. Thanks!

I tried to clone the hair out but I couldn't.

Any chance you have them in RAW format?

OK, here's a quick attempt. In ACR, I:

1. reduced the exposure a bit + some recovery to knock down the highlights,
2. applied medium contrast curve,
3. used adjustment brush to darken the tree and lighten her face & left leg
4. tweaked the green hue/saturation to tone the bright leaves down a bit...

...ninja edit - forgot to convert to SRGB...

here's mine. the compression on these is pretty bad but you get the idea.

biggest difference maker: burning down the blown out sky at the top. also: i reduced clarity. a little fill light. slight crop. slight boost in blacks. slight dodge in her eyes.

1.

2. this one really has compression issues. :unamused:

sorry, GM. I didn't do them in RAW. I need to get over my issue with shooting RAW and just do it. Thanks for the attempt, right now at work I can't get a good look at these on this monitor.

I shoot with RAW + Jpeg setting, but pretty much rely entirely on RAW for all my PP'ing because I've never been happy with consistency of the Jpegs coming out of my D-80. And I've also learned to appreciate what can be done with RAW pics in ACR 5.x. I strongly recommend shooting RAW.
